The Environmental Pressure to Eliminate Plastic Water Bottles

Pressure in the market to stop offering water in plastic bottles at festivals and other events

The pressure to eliminate plastic water bottle usage comes primarily from a more environmentally conscientious consumer and event attendee. However there is rising pressure coming from the local municipal landfill sites that are having to deal with the enormous amount of plastic water bottles that can be consumed and left as garbage after a major (single or multiple day) events. There is also the economic realization that the same municipalities spend millions of dollars providing clean, safe drinking water that could and should be used at these same events.

Event Water Solutions is positioned right now as the only identifiable solution capable of successfully solving their water issues.  We are willing to work with individual events and their specific needs.  Along with festivals there have been several other event sectors that have identified an interest in our product and services including, but not limited to:

a. Dragon Boat Race events

b. Canada Day Celebrations

c. Fund Raising Walks (Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke, etc)

d. Marathon Race events

e. International Plowing Match

Environmental Impacts

The environmental benefits and impacts are significant.  Our services will have an enormous positive impact on the environment.  The elimination of the need for and the use of plastic water bottles has come of age as the next environmental issue that we as consumers can have an immediate and lasting impact on.

Think of the wastes involves with plastic water bottle use.

  • The waste in the manufacturing process for plastic water bottles (energy, transportation, etc).
  • The waste in the bottling process (energy, water, transportation).
  • The potential health risk of chemical leaching into the water the detrimental effect on landfill sites and recycling programs.
  • The high rate of uncaptured plastic water bottles.

It all adds up to an environmental disaster.  It is a disaster that we can easily reverse simply by stopping the purchase, sale and usage of water in plastic bottles and combining that with a re-education about the merits of municipal water usage.

All event organizers face the dilemma of providing hydration for large numbers of people attending their events and yet not having the negative environmental consequence and impact of plastic water bottles. Our services solve this dilemma for event organizers by providing clean, cold, filtered and tested safe municipal water at any location.

It has been proven that the vast majority of plastic water bottles consumed globally do not end up in the recycling stream. Most actually end up being buried in the local landfill garbage area. This is not acceptable.

According to a 2008 Toronto Sun article,

as few as 50% of the plastic water bottles Torontonians consume everyday are actually recycled.  That means as many as 65 million empty plastic water bottles PER YEAR end up as garbage in a landfill waste site.

Those concerned with the environment also realize that Reducing and Reusing are far more important than Recycling.

The event organizers and their advisory boards are becoming more aware of their responsibilities around their environmental footprint. They realize that their event has to create a much smaller footprint through a much larger participation level.
